From a family of British Telescopic sights which includes the No 32; No 42; No 53 and No 55. The No 32 is the famous scope originally designed for the British Bren Gun but applied to the No 4 T .303 Rifle Sniping System. It appears that the No 42 may have been intended as a sighting scope for an artillery piece or heavy machine gun. The reticule consists of 4 Cross Hairs with a central gap. Magnification is around the order of X 3. Whilst described as a sniping telescope I believe that it is not as unlike the No 32 it does not have Elevation or Deflection adjustment.
